Dear Network Capital community members,
I am writing to you from Nice in the South of France. I launched my book with a bunch of fascinating community members in this beautiful city. Passion economy is a global trend and it is energizing to connect with interesting professionals around the world seeking to redefine their relationship with work. If you are interested in joining the subgroup in your city, subscribe to Network Capital.
I have also started a new column with The New Indian Express. In the first article, I reflect on ILO’s latest report on labor trends in India. I explain how the passion economy can offer a glimmer of hope.
“According to a new report by the International Labour Organization, India went through a labour crisis in 2021, especially hurting the youth in the 15-24 age group. Surveys conducted by the Centre for Monitoring the Indian Economy show that the youth employment participation rate declined by 0.9 percentage points over the first nine months of 2021 compared to 2020.”
The essence of passion economy is to do what you love, teach what you love and discover autonomy, mastery and purpose along the way. Towards that end, I am happy to share that Prateek Jain (Product Leader, Twilio; Columbia Business School alum, EB1 visa awardee) will be teaching Hyper-Growth B2B Product Management. To know more about this course, watch this fireside chat conversation between Prateek and me. I recorded it next to a beach. It turns out that the 1 hour that matched both our calendars was when I landed in Nice. Hope you enjoy the course.

💌 You should fire yourself to future-proof yourself - 5 years from now, do you really see yourself doing what you do today? If you could design your ideal day 5 years from now, would your day include most of the activities you indulge in today? If the answer is yes, you are probably not thinking big enough. If the answer is no (we reckon it will be no for most readers), you need to seriously plan your redundancy. Basically learn to fire yourself from the job you have today.
💌 How Picasso Worked - While Picasso's influence began with his art -- he's credited with influencing every major art movement of the 20th century. He was an attention-grabbing artist, controversial character: a womanizer, Stalinist and genius who was both loved and hated. That said, no one has ever doubted his talent and commitment towards creating art that moved the world.
💌 Passion comes from suffering - Prateek’s passion is teaching and my passion is empowering millennials to have meaningful careers, to have the greatest impact on the world through their work lives. And this passion continues to flourish because you, me, Prateek and anyone reading this newsletter is ok with the suffering that comes along with it.
