You should fire yourself to future-proof yourself
Designing your redundancy
Like it or not, you will become redundant soon enough. If you are reading this, you are perhaps an ambitious and curious professional trying to make your mark. You have worked hard at different junctures in life and even if you don’t consider yourself particularly successful, you are far better than the average professional tinkering along.
Take a moment to congratulate yourself on your struggles, your triumphs and things you are proud of.
Done?
Now try and look forward. 5 years from now, do you really see yourself doing what you do today? If you could design your ideal day 5 years from now, would your day include most of the activities you indulge in today? If the answer is yes, you are probably not thinking big enough. If the answer is no (we reckon it will be no for most readers), you need to seriously plan your redundancy. Basically learn to fire yourself from the job you have today.
