Dear community members,
This past week we hosted Pramath Raj Sinha on Network Capital. He has earned the tag of an institution builder, a profession that neither existed, nor could he ever have imagined for himself, when growing up in Patna, Bihar. What is perhaps less widely known is that as a Partner at McKinsey & Company, then as one of the Founders of the Indian School of Business (ISB), the Young India Fellowship (YIF), Ashoka University, the Vedica Scholars Programme for Women and the Naropa Fellowship, he has guided hundreds of students on their academic and career choices. As someone who studied metallurgical engineering, did robotics research, failed as an academic, then became a management consultant, a CEO, a media and now edtech entrepreneur, he believes you can surprise yourself with what you can do, yet shape your career purposefully and deliberately.
In the masterclass, he talks about latest book ‘Learn, Don’t Study’ and cover mental models on -
Art and science of self-discovery
Becoming a deep-generalist
Meaningful career transitions with a growth mindset

💌 <Time sensitive> Seek career advice from Senior Product Manager at Twilio - Prateek Jain is one of Network Capital’s patrons. He earned his MBA from Columbia Business School and serves as a senior product manager at Twilio. Now he is doing all he can to help those who have been laid off. Check out his message.
💌 Why you will fail to have a great career - I suspect less than 10% of people ever surrender to who they really are. They spend their whole lives trying to fulfill a fake and manufactured image. And so, they get trapped in hollow careers and meaningless pursuits where they’re forced to be somebody they’re not — the stuff of a cold and haunting misery.”
💌 How many managers do you really have? - There are times when interesting inputs come from outside the team. At such points, good managers must not rush into the implementation mode. It is the job of the person accountable. S/he has the full picture and can include suggestions appropriately. If they aren’t able to, intervening makes sense. But intervening without letting the accountable person weave it into the larger work structure can undermine him/her.
Adventure Retreat
On Network Capital, we want to help you build your category of one not only in terms of what you bring to the workplace but also the values you live by. In this 3 day retreat, we will enjoy myriad outdoor adventures curated by Laidback, a venture by one of our subscribers Nakul.
We will consider the retreat successful if you go back with cherished friendships, deeper knowledge about your selves and ideas for connecting with others in order to add specific value to them. Your personal and professional growth will be a natural byproduct.
The adventure kickstarts in a quaint, outdoor resort near Chail. See you on 21st April evening.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
