There is no formula for self-discovery. There have, however, been some attempts in the form of psychometric tests, algorithms and guided medical trials. No success stories so far but perhaps that isn’t such a bad thing. It will be a tad disappointing to know that our professional futures can be charted out by rudimentary algorithms. That said, are these rudimentary algorithms any worse than current ways of figuring out what next? Who knows…..
These age-agnostic fellowships starts on July 10, 2021. In them, we will help you learn new things, read charming content, meet interesting people and discover what piques your curiosity. No one else can tell you what you should do. The decision needs to come from you but there are some proven techniques that can help figure out the problem that needs you the most. Isn’t that what your work should be about?
Dr Shashi Tharoor, a third-term Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, is the bestselling author of twenty-two books, both fiction and non-fiction, besides being a former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and a former Minister of State for Human Resource Development and for External Affairs in the Government of India.
Aayush Ailawadi is a content strategist, multimedia producer and television presenter. Previously, he was anchor and special correspondent at BloombergQuint and was part of the channel’s launch team. He has also worked at CNBC TV18 and the Star Network.
Over the last 8 years, he has worked as a storyteller in television, radio and digital with a strong focus on technology, business and sport. Recently, he contributed to the popular Netflix series 'Bad Boy Billionaires: India’.
He is also the co-founder and host of the “Let’s Tech About It” podcast.
In fact, I developed a process that helps me grapple with envy better than I used to. It is important to keep in mind, however, that this process works for benign envy, not malicious envy. Benign envy could become malignant if it’s allowed to grow unchecked, and that’s where this tool helped me. Instead of losing sight of my own goals and transferring the locus of control to someone else, I used this process to understand my triggers, what I had control over, and put things in perspective.
Now, whenever I feel envious of someone or something, I open the notepad on my phone and document three things. I call this my “personal envy lab.” Here is how it works.
