Before we dive into the art of building a strong network, let us share some resources that might help you.
We will refer to these mental models in this newsletter so you may want to bookmark them. Let’s get started.
Building a network needs thought and intentionality. Begin by asking what’s the purpose. Why do you need it? For most people, the answer is to augment their luck surface area so they can access new opportunities or scale the impact of what they are doing. It helps to be specific. This doesn’t mean you should only connect with people who can help you with a particular goal. Just that networking takes and time is limited. You should spend it carefully.
Know what you bring to the table. Networking happens among equals. Typically people want to connect with others who can add specific value to their lives. Before sending a connection request, keep the other person in mind, identify ways in which you can add value to her, and explain it clearly in 100 words or less. Master effective introductions. You don’t want to sound too transactional or bombard the other person with too many requests.
