Dear readers,
Network Capital is in Vogue, yet again. This time it is Varya (our VP of Product and Government Affairs) along with her Internet friend Neha talking about IRL vs URL Friendships.
In this Vogue thought piece, Varya and Neha explore the evolution of friendships and friendship day from its early deception in the 1998 Bollywood movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to the early days of Gossip-Girl like online friendship phenomena lead by websites like ask.fm, to finally concluding at the idea that friendships made via interest graphs and algorithms in niche corners of the Internet.
Friendships on Network Capital
For us this Vogue piece and friendships online are important, because they take us back to the power of communities and friendships.
Between 2016 and 2023, Network Capital as a company has gone through many changes. We have iterated on our business model, rebranded ourself, created new partnership and adapted to serve our members to the best of our abilities.
Through all of these changes, the one thing that has remained consistent and possibly most valued is the community and the friendships it has fostered. To quote and echo CS Lewis “Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art.... It has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.”
Network Capital members turned friends have -
Gone on holidays together
Showed up for each other in moments of personal crisis — maybe it be at the police station or the hospital. (Network Capital Covid Response lead by Srujani & Akshat)
Found love and a sense of home away from home
Been each others cheerleaders when things don’t look the best
Been the fun partner in crime for side-hustles or new ventures
The list goes on…
As we approach Friendship Day on August 6, like Varya and Neha did, we would like to invite you talk to your Network Capital friend, and have that long due call!
While you’re at it, maybe share your friendship story in the comments here as well :)
