I first came up with the theme of my book in January 2022. I had my first serendipitous call with a publisher towards the end-July. I got the publishing contract in September, and the first draft of the book was ready by mid-December. In less than a year, I had gone from idea to execution, and completed a process that often takes people years.

At that time, I thought that my book would be out by the Summer of 2023. I didn’t account for creative blocks and the difficulties of editing.

Ernest Hemingway had famously said, one should ‘write drunk, edit sober’. In my experience the book contract did give a certain high that made the writing process a very smooth sailing. The editing took me to more testing waters.

Now that I’m almost closing my final edits as well, I have been thinking about the relationship between creative blocks and narcism. For the last month, I have been averaging about 5000 words of writing a day. I’ll probably not be able to sustain this for too long, but understanding narcism in creation with the help of pop-culture references helped me augment my writings.
